As Sam’s teacher I accompanied him for what was an amazing experience. As we drove into the yard the first thing that struck me was the sight of a stunning old barn which housed the cookery school situated next to a beautiful farmhouse. Abbots Hill is Lesley’s home and cooking school and is situated high up on a hill with panoramic views approximately seven miles outside Yeovil.
We had arrived in good time after a long drive and were welcomed in to wait for the other competitors to arrive then we got down to the cooking.
The recipes we made were:
• Poached egg and pancetta salad with fig balsamic dressing with pumpkin and sage rustic loaf
• Rich steak & venison pie with celeriac dauphinoise and spring greens
• Vanilla creams with rhubarb & raspberry dressing.
After cooking up a storm we set the table and sat and ate the food for lunch. The day was brilliant and Sam left with a bag of goodies including Lesley’s new cook book ‘A year at Abbots Hill’ and I left with fond memories and inspiring new recipes.
