The day started on a very positive note as members of the Year 7 Student Council handed over boxes and black sacks crammed full of T shirts, towels and blankets that the Sanctuary desperately needs. As we traversed the park, we saw at first hand how the donations were used. One orangutan was having tremendous fun playing peek-a-boo with the students from inside a duvet cover!
Mr. Dean did some monkeying around when he was “volunteered" to undergo monkey training. With clever use of a training clicker and an imaginary bunch of grapes his trainer was able to persuade Mr. Dean to stand at his "station" and have his head, hands, ears, teeth etc. checked by the keeper to ensure that he was in tip-top condition!
The students thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits and were exceptionally quiet as they had been assured that the quieter they were at each enclosure the more likely the monkeys, apes and chimps would come close to investigate who was watching them. Students were treated to some funny antics by a couple of chimps who were dragging around a large cardboard box.
All in all a fabulous trip, enjoyed by students and staff alike.
