BTEC Drama takes London!

On April 30th, the Sixth Form drama students made their long awaited trip to London.

The day commenced with a tour of the National Theatre and culminated in watching one of the last performances of Wonder.land.

The tour allowed the students to view all three theatres and understand the history and design of them, followed by an opportunity to stand on the Lithium Stage and observe the view as seen by professionals every night.  Additionally, the National Theatre is one of few places that produce their own sets and the students’ tour included a preview of the factory, giving them a glimpse of the latest set in production, of which will be on stage in two months’ time.

After the tour, the students were fortunate to have seats for the penultimate showing of Wonder.land.  This was a Musical, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, with a modernised twist, linking to the characters of Alice in Wonderland and how they would be portrayed today.  With music by Damon Albarn, this was an unforgettable show, which will help inspire the Year 13 drama students with their own performance of Alice in Wonderland to be held in the next few weeks at Highcliffe Castle.

"An absolutely amazing experience. This trip really gave me an insight into what we could explore for our final piece in BTEC Acting but also in what is to come for my chosen path next year.  We got to go behind the scenes where we saw people making set and costumes for shows to come in the near future, showing that the theatre isn't just for the people on the stage!   The show in itself was incredible, with the concept of Alice in Wonderland being brought into a modern day context and somehow working!   The day was really enjoyable and I hope I get to go again and watch more performances there in the future”
